The challenge

Freelancers juggle invoices, taxes and irregular income, and most banking apps treat them like salaried employees. Northwind wanted an app that shows what money is really theirs to spend.

Process

We interviewed twelve freelancers and mapped how they track income today. Most of them kept a spreadsheet next to their bank app. That spreadsheet became the starting point for the new home screen.

I designed the core flows in two weeks, tested clickable prototypes every Friday, and cut every screen that did not help someone decide what to do next.

Result

The new home screen splits the balance into spendable money and money set aside for taxes. Early users opened the app twice as often, and support questions about tax savings dropped noticeably.
