The challenge

Most note apps add features until writing a simple note feels like work. Field Notes wanted the opposite: open the app and start typing.

Process

I stripped the interface down to a single writing surface and moved organisation into gestures. Every screen was tested on small phones first.

Result

The app launched with a focused feature set and strong reviews for its simplicity. It is a good reminder that removing things is also design work.
